This camp has been canceled because the Beartooth Pass Ski Area will not be opening this year.
Hello Northern Division racers!
It
is looking like we will have a ski area up on top of the Beartooth Pass
again this year. This is great news! Turns in our own back yard! We
will be putting together a few different sessions of race camps this
year that will fill the beginning of June and would love to have as
many of the Northern Division athletes as possible. Starting June 7 we
are looking at putting together three different three day sessions that
will run through the following weekend:
-
June 7 – June 9, Fundamentals camp. The first few days of most early
summer camps (especially those camps including younger athletes) are
typically used to review skiing fundamentals. We will do the same
while using all of the terrain that Red Lodge International has to
offer and utilizing drill courses to prepare the athletes for…
-
June 10 – June 12, Giant Slalom Fundamentals camp. These three days in
the mid-week will be used for fundamentals as well as Giant Slalom
tactics. For any of the older athletes, and the more accomplished J4
athletes, we will try to run GS from the Highway to the bottom! This
is a pretty exciting opportunity for us. Of course we will also be
running GS and GS drill courses on the lower half of the venue in order
to hone our Giant Slalom techniques and tactics.
-
June 14 – June 16, Slalom and Fundamentals camp. The second weekend
session will hold a lot of options depending on our response and
participants. For those athletes who are staying for the entire nine
days we will be running slalom and slalom drills. For the skiers who
might only be coming for the two weekend sessions we will have a mix of
GS and Slalom drills and courses during the second weekend. Finally,
if there are any athletes who can not make the first weekend, we will
also
offer a repeat of the first weekend’s camp.
The
coaching staff for these sessions is shaping up very nicely. So far I
have talked to Jeremy Ueland, Jarod Roberts, Roger Bay, Mark Selby, and
Chris Smith from the Northern Division coaching ranks and they are all
interested and hoping to be able to come. I am hoping also to add at
least one NCAA Division I ski coach, and at least two recently retired
FIS elite level racers who are moving into the coaching ranks.
At
this time I am hoping to see how much interest there is in the various
three-day scenarios. I am trying to be flexible in order to best serve
as many Northern Division athletes as possible, but would like to have
commitment to any of the available sessions as soon as possible.
A
good guideline for cost of our camps is $100 per day. This cost
includes coaching, lifts, our lane space and salt, and transportation
from Red Lodge to the camp and back, as well as a daily snack. The
cost does not include housing, meals or transportation from your house
to Red Lodge. There are a number of lodging options available through
families in the Silver Run Ski Team, as well as the many hotels in the
area. We will be willing and able to help with finding lodging or at
least
to steer you in the proper direction. The prices for the camps will be
refined as we learn how many athletes will be attending.
For
those interested in attending any of the sessions, please contact me
(Ted McNamara) directly via phone (406.672.2736) or email
(teddymacski@msn.com). As we gather information and get closer to
camp, we will get the necessary paperwork to the interested families.
Hope to see you all in a few weeks for some super summer skiing!!!
